First Images from Season 2 of The Night Manager

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, the first images of Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Colman in Season 2 of The Night Manager have been released. The show’s first season, written and produced by David Farr, aired in 2016.

The series — winner of two Emmy Awards and three Golden Globes — tells the story of a luxury hotel night manager in Cairo, played by Hiddleston, who is recruited to infiltrate the inner circle of an arms dealer named Richard Roper, portrayed by Hugh Laurie. At the end of the first season, Roper was captured by the Syrians. The second season moves beyond John le Carré’s original novel, which has no sequel, to reveal what happens eight years later.

In Season 2, Jonathan Pine is living under the alias Alex Goodwin — a low-level MI6 operative managing a surveillance unit in London. However, a chance encounter with Roper pulls him into a dangerous mission involving a Colombian businessman named Teddy Dos Santos, played by Diego Calva.

Olivia Colman returns as intelligence officer Angela Burr, with Noah Jupe as Danny Roper, Alistair Petrie as Alexander Langbourne, Douglas Hodge as Rex Mayhew, and Michael Nardone as Frisky. Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as Jonathan Pine, joined by Camila Morrone, Diego Calva, Indira Varma, Paul Shahidi, and Hayley Squires.

Sam Cornwell, son of John le Carré, told Vanity Fair that the idea for Season 2 originated from a dream David Farr had in 2020 — the night before his father’s passing. He said:

“Not a day goes by that I don’t think of my father with sadness. But at the same time, it can be liberating. When many authors pass away, their estates impose various restrictions — what can or cannot be done. But in my father’s letter, he wrote: ‘You know my positions; respect them. But only you can decide where this goes.’ And that’s a kind of calling.”

Season 2 has been filmed across the UK, Spain, Colombia, and France, and is directed by Georgi Banks-Davies.
